That said, snappers can play a big part during the remainder of this season's fishing fun.Ĭapt. One might consider in these tough times that the human animal would be less restricted in feeding themselves and their families. Snappers are a food fish for larger predator species like stripers and fluke so one has to wonder about the impact of limiting recreational anglers, while predators ranging from fish to cormorants kill thousands of the small fish. The State DEP in its infinite wisdom placed a 10 fish limit on all bluefish including snappers a few years back but there's some doubt as to what it has done for the adult bluefish population. Filling the freezer for winter was the work of a good afternoon. In the good old days, snapper catches were measured more by the bucket than by the fish. That's where local fishing legend, William "Doc" Skerlick always did most of his snapper fishing, including the hundreds of fish he cooked up for his club fish fry every year. Westport's Sherwood Mill Pond was always a good spot, but the Race at the Old Mill and on the other side New Creek at Burial Hill Beach are top snapper spots.

In Norwalk, Veteran's Park, the marinas and the Norwalk River itself are popular spots, but snappers can be caught off almost any dock or pier, creek or cove. Snappers hit all day every day with top-of-the-tide and an hour or so on the drop being the best time. They increase in numbers as the season evolves and are targeted more from shore than from the boats. Bigger blues require even more skill and should be handled by grown-ups instead of small children. They are small and can be grasped across the back or under the belly, so it's not a problem. Coming in contact with a set of these miniature scalpels will draw blood, so even these little critters must be handled in a manner which avoids those teeth. I have sealed and coated the shell with acrylic sealer. Can be used on a mini easel as a piece of art, ring dish, key holder, crystal bowl and much more. This is a perfect decor piece for a beach house or cottage bringing a piece of the ocean to your home. They all have interesting looks to them making each one a unique character. I added minor touches of color to bring out shadows in the fish. I wanted to keep the natural color of the shell as much as possible. I was inspired to draw fish on the inside of shells because the contour, color and shape fit perfectly with the fishes body. I love going for walks on the beach and collecting objects from nature. Original Drawing/ Painting of the Snapper Bluefish on a jumbo sized shell! These are very rare and hard to find. Great gift for the fisherman in your life!
